A solid vocalist whose technique is simply brilliant and can be well described as outstanding, listening to his songs or performances since his debut to date, it is clear he has honed his gifts through hard work and consistent practice, getting it to a point where it is so unique, dynamic, and befitting to be classified as one of the best. New to him? Here are some of his vocal performances that prove our point.
1. ‘The Way I Am’
Perhaps if you are new to GyeHyeon, the brilliance of this performance might come as a shock to you but older fans are used to this incredible display of vocals by now. However, old or new, there is still a reaction of awe and amazement that is derived from watching this performance. Charlie Puth’s songs might look easy to sing because of how well and smooth he does it, but the technicality behind his vocals and production is quite intense. Which is why he sounds so unique. A trait that can very well be attributed to GyeHyeon. In this performance, he infuses his own style into the song while maintaining its original form. Showing off his versatility as a vocalist, he sings this in a higher pitch, which adds so much appeal and zest to his performance. From the way he switches his voice in several parts of this song to his high notes, and the flair infused in his intonations too, GyeHyeon might have not strayed too far from the original, but he made this song his own.
2. ‘Bambi’
If someone asks for a vocally pleasing song to listen to, this should be your top nomination. ‘Bambi’ has been proven to be a very difficult song to cover because of the ingenuity and outstanding talents of its owner, EXO’s BaekHyun. While many have done this song justice, one who perhaps comes very close to the feel of its original version, is GyeHyeon. His melody! The word “Beautiful” is the only way to describe it. From the very first note, GyeHyeon’s voice enchants your mind, he keeps you laser-focused on him and all your thoughts disperse, as your mind is clear and in a state of pure bliss. You’re somewhat brought back to reality when he hit that high note. A jaw-dropping experience, it is perhaps in this moment that you realize, “He is a truly special vocalist.” This is a cover that would make both EXOLsand VERRERs proud.
3. ‘Hello’
This performance with YeonHo is a true masterpiece. It won’t be shocking if while listening to this song, a tear slowly drops down your face. At the beginning of this song, there is a sense of calm and peace that hits you, and as the song progresses, you get to feel hints of sadness, pain, and desire. These are some of the emotions they perfectly convey with their vocals. It is very clear how distinct their voices are, yet they blend beautifully well together. Each of them has his own moment to shine too. Speaking about GyeHyeon, the technique displayed in this performance was simply perfect. Even from his subtlest of actions, you can see how immersed he is in the song. He believes every note he sings and perhaps that is why he is able to convey it with such brilliance. His high notes were once again another awe factor of this performance. This feels like a “he just hit an Ariana Grande note” moment. Even after he hits that climatic moment of the song, without a pause, he seamlessly continues with the performance like that he didn’t just take our breaths away. A song filled with beautiful harmonies, this is a performance you can watch on a loop and still feel goosebumps every time.
4. ‘Square’
Sonorously perfect and generally pleasing to watch, this cover with MinChan adds so much happiness and colors to our lives. The harmonies in this song are simply refreshing and cheery. You can’t help but feel a great sense of comfort and relief while listening to this song. One of the things, in our opinion, that makes GyeHyeon so special is seeing those subtle moments where you can tell how lost he is in the performance. He is almost in his own world, even if there is a crowd or camera in front of him. In those moments, he looks like love. He is truly enjoying himself, and seeing that makes our hearts leap. Once again, his vocals are gold and he makes you enjoy listening to music. P.s, MinChan playing the guitar is the coolest thing ever! Did you enjoy these performances?
