After the death of her twin brother, the crown prince, she is persuaded to replace him in other to keep his death a secret. Years later, everything seems to be going as planned as unbeknownst to everyone (except a few in the palace), she is the crown handsome prince who is also seen as smart, dutiful, and kind. Things however start to change when her first crush comes to work in the Palace as her teacher. As their budding affection for each other grows, it comes at the risk of her secret being exposed. Filled with every element that many find interesting about historical dramas, political unrest, a quest for power, and love amidst troubling times this series is a fan favorite till date as with 48.4% (61,547) of the total votes, it ranks 1st on the poll.
2. “Mr. Sunshine”
With its melodramatic theme and its brilliant use of historical facts, “Mr. Sunshine” continues to be a favorite by many fans of this genre. Starring Lee ByungHun, Kim TaeRi, Yoo YeonSeok, and Byun YoHan, the series depicts the story of a man who after escaping slavery and going to the U.S returns to Korea as a marine officer and falls in love with an aristocrat’s granddaughter. Who hides her identity as a member of the righteous army. They strived to understand and protect their love against the pressures of society and external forces while also being faced with a troubling discovery of the colonization plot by the empire of Japan. With 29.8% (37,883) of the total votes, fans regard it as one of the best historical dramas as it comes 2nd on the poll.
3. “Love In The Moonlight”
Starring Park BoGum, Kim YouJung, JinYoung, Chae SooBin, and Kwak DongYeon, the historical drama tells the coming-of-age story of a young crown prince who grows affectionate for a Eunuch Hong Ra On, who is actually a woman pretending to be a man. With a storyline filled with heart-fluttering moments, fun adventures, and comedy, this series gained prominent success upon its release and till date, it still records as one of the best historical dramas as with 11.2% (14,251) of the total votes, it ranks 3rd on the poll.
