We’ve divided the interview into three parts. Please stay tuned for all of them as the actor is sharing a lot about him, how he got to act in a BL, his character in “Light on Me”, his favorite scene, his taste in music and food, and much more. He also has a special lovely message for overseas fans! Be aware that this interview contains spoilers of “Light on Me”. “Light on Me” Fans have been talking a lot about the love triangle DaOn-TaeGyeong-ShinWoo. It seems like DaOn gives up on TaeGyeong more easily than ShinWoo, what were DaOn’s real feelings? Have you ever thought about what would be different if DaOn took another decision? From the point of view of the viewers, what couple were you supporting? First of all, DaOn never gave up on TaeGyeong easily. DaOn took care of TaeGyeong even more than others because he was sincere to him, and TaeGyeong was the first person he opens his heart to. I think the reason why viewers can have the impression that DaOn gave up too easily is because of his personality’s issue. As I mentioned earlier, DaOn loves TaeGyeong, but he is also too caring about others’ opinions that is why he looks like a warm and smiling person on the outside. You will remember the scene where DaOn talks about his plans on getting back with TaeGyeong to ShinWoo in the student council room. From this scene, DaOn broke free from his personality issue and decided to give all his heart to TaeGyeong. Before, he thought that how others were seeing him was the most important, and that was his biggest weakness. But the issue was that TaeGyeong’s heart was already farther from DaOn’s heart when he decided to change. To put this simply, more than giving up, DaOn and TaeGyeong tried their best sincerely, but it was a miss on each other. DaOn loved TaeGyeong sincerely. Also, in the scene where DaOn brings his organized study notes to TaeGyeong to show his feelings for him, TaeGyeong does not accept his feelings and turns his back on him. This is when ShinWoo goes after TaeGyeong. I wonder if DaOn held on to TaeGyeong and told him how he feels, whether they would have missed each other or not. To be honest, if it was me Choe ChanYi, at that moment, I would have held on to TaeGyeong, according to my personality. But in the drama, if DaOn had gone after him, they would be together, and that is too obvious. So I would like to think DaOn did not for the fun of the drama … . My heart is aching!! 🙁 If I were a viewer, I think I would support ShinWoo-TaeGyeong. In the drama, DaOn is too ambiguous, while ShinWoo is straightforward. But at the beginning, TaeGyeong’s heart is inclined to DaOn even with his ambiguous attitude. If I were a viewer, I would maybe think “ShinWoo is trying so hard and is the straightforward type with his feelings. TaeGyeong needs to be with ShinWoo”. Also, I will use this opportunity to have a few words for those of you who supported DaOn-TaeGyeong. Not a lot of viewers supported this couple. I think these persons are the ones who understood DaOn’s weaknesses. Thank you, and I love you… Please support me ❤ However, I am Team ShinWoo … hahaha. I am just kidding!! Thank you to all the viewers for your love for “Light on Me” regardless of your supporting team. What did you learn through this drama? What would you like people to remember about “Light on Me”? There are a lot of things left to me with this drama. I could move one step farther into acting with this project and also improve my skills to analyze the scripts. I also improved my understanding of breathing, expressions, and of the set. I really learned a lot of things. Also, I could meet a lot of great people, and that is so great. Because all the people at the filming set were so nice, I could focus on the role of DaOn. I feel that thanks to these people, I could go happily to the set, I am very thankful. I hope that “Light on Me” would be a drama that you can count on. For those who are stressed by social life, those who have a hard time, those who want comfort, those who are starting to be in love or are starting to love again, those who are sick of human relationships, those who are facing difficulties or just everybody. I think it’d very grateful and meaningful if you could come back to us once in your life. I wish this drama not to be just one page but one small and powerful line of several pages of your life. Like that, the drama can take a small place in everyone’s heart. I want you to remember me as small but strong ❤. Acting You have been active as a singer with THE MAN BLK, when you participated in “Boys 24”, etc. Is there a reason why you moved to be an actor completely? I was dreaming of being an idol since I was an 18-year-old. During six years, I learned dancing and singing. They kept me alive and breathing. Back then, I knew nothing about acting. When I was a 27-year-old, I joined a company, and they suggested I try dancing, singing, and acting. I agreed to this because I was curious. That was the biggest reason. Since acting is still part of “art”, I thought it would fit me well too. The little seed of acting that I got during acting classes started to grow with time. Right now, there is a tiny leaf to this seed. One step, one little leaf. Now singing and dancing is just a hobby, acting has become what makes me breathe. The only reason for acting is that I want to live while breathing through acting until this seed grows into a massive tree with leaves. As an actor, there are plenty of jobs you can experience while acting. For now, you only acted roles of students. Is there any job or role you want to experience in your next works? The role I want to try the most is student soldier (a soldier who fought at war as a student). If I were a student soldier who existed only during the Korean war, I am curious to know how I would act. I want to feel the passion and emotions of the whole country and the people who fought hard during the Korean War! Choe ChanYi has answered a lot of more questions, please check out the following part here. In part 3, he talks about his personality, his hobbies, when he would like to go back in time, the late-night food he advises overseas fans, season 3 of “Best Mistake”, his plans and goals, and left a lovely message to overseas fans.
