Recently, BTS member Jin made the headlines for a stunning song that he contributed to the OST of the ongoing mystery thriller drama “Jirisan”, starring Jun JiHyun and Ju JiHoon. The song is called ‘Yours’ and it perfectly encapsulates the foggy consciousness that pervades the drama. There’s an ironic yet beautiful spirituality to both the song and the story that is both transcient and worldly at the same time. No one, if not Jin, could have brought this masterpiece to life.

The most interesting aspect of ‘Yours’ is that you can see bits and pieces of BTS’ universe in it. Keep reading for a complete analysis and explanation of ‘Yours’ by Jin. “A deeper day, a longer shadow The sun is setting in the distance I guess I’m wandering in the dark Am I trapped in here?” A shadow is created only when one stands opposed to the light or rather, faces the same. The very first verse of the song posits an individual who has faced the light for a little too long, allowing his shadow to grow to the point that it swallows him. As the sun, a symbol of truth and hope, sets in the distance, one’s shadow grows longer and longer until it’s bigger than what’s real and tangible. Such darkness is scarier than just the mere absence of light. This darkness is within. “The place that is still breathing I have to get closer to that place” The only way to escape this abyss is to find the light that relentlessly glows deep inside one’s heart: the soul. This is where the spiritual aspect of the lyrics shine the brightest, highlighting further the significance of the rich inner world of the mountains. Jin brilliantly brings together two completely unrelated undercurrents and creates a whole new stream of consciousness from the same.  “Every day you seem too far away Every time you do, I tell myself I’m waiting right here Every night I see you in my heart Every time I do, I end up crying When I call you in the darkness” The soul is unbreakable and unmoved and the only one with the map of the soul is the self. No matter how far away you have strayed from your truth, you can guide yourself back if you tap into the recesses of your own heart.  “The place where time has stoppеd Now I have to turn back” The only way to surpass the shadow is to come to terms with it: a concept that BTS delves deep into through “Intro: Persona”, “Interlude: Shadow” and “Outro: Ego”.  There could not have possibly been a more brilliant way to merge BTS’ musical identity to the core principles of “Jirisan” and it is not surprising at all that this came from one of the most poetically inclined members, Jin.  What did you think of Jin’s ‘Yours’?
