“Back To You”, also known as “Just A Girl He Knows”, is a time-slip romance webtoon that tells the story of HaYoung, an unassuming young girl who strongly believes that the boy who keeps appearing in her dreams is the one she is destined to be with. This boy is JaeHyun, a popular classmate and neighbour who seems to notice everyone but her. To JaeHyun, HaYoung is not a friend or a lover but rather just a girl he knows, and that apparent indifference is enough to deter HaYoung from approaching him. Nevertheless, JaeHyun is HaYoung’s first love, and her heart remains unchanged. Years later, HaYoung continues to be plagued by the same dream every November. Having spent her late teens either studying or thinking about JaeHyun, HaYoung never really paid attention to her own self. In the present, however, she is a confident office worker with quite the good looks. She has moved on in life, whether that be in terms of love and relationships or otherwise but JaeHyun is no more. He passed away in an accident on a rainy day and the last time she saw him is the scene that keeps coming back to her in her dreams. Regardless, HaYoung does her best to live diligently, even if that means going on blind dates she isn’t really interested in. On one such date set up by her best friend EunJu, HaYoung meets Min EunJae, a former high school senior. As he insists on walking her home, they get on a bus and reminisce about their first loves. The next day, in lieu of being alone on JaeHyun’s death anniversary, HaYoung meets up with EunJae to share a few drinks. As the alcohol takes over, she ends up confessing all about her first love, a boy she knew, her crush, JaeHyun, who she dreams of every November. On the way home, with HaYoung drunk out of her mind and EunJae barely holding on to her, they come across the cherry blossom tunnel once again. However, something strange stands in the darkness, causing the bus to crash. HaYoung wakes up in a hospital bed with her mother by her side but the year is 2009, a time when JaeHyun was still alive. As it turns out, both EunJae and her had traveled back in time with all their memories intact. Soon after, HaYoung runs into JaeHyun, reminding her of the deep regret she felt for not having stopped JaeHyun from getting on the bus that day. With a second chance at life, fully aware of the future that awaits, HaYoung makes up her mind to change the turn of fate, both for herself and JaeHyun. You can read the full webtoon in Korean and English. For fans of the webtoon, the news of an adaptation comes with great expectations, especially for the leading cast of actors. With these expectations in mind, we picked 9 actors/idols who we think would perfectly fit the roles of HaYoung, JaeHyun and EunJae. Vote for your pick in the polls down below!
Yoon HaYoung
Despite being timid and introverted as a high-schooler, HaYoung shows excellent character development throughout the webtoon, especially when she travels back in time. The new HaYoung is bold, outspoken, and doesn’t hesitate to stand up for what’s right. We think (G)I-DLE’s MiYeon, Park EunBin, and Ryu HyeYoung would be incredible in the role of Yoon HaYoung.
Lee JaeHyun
JaeHyun is a dutiful, sensible, and mature person. He is popular yet lonely, mostly because he doesn’t open up to others easily. However, has a heart of gold and is a true friend. Jang DongYoon, SF9’s Chani, and Kang Daniel would be able to fulfill the complexity of JaeHyun’s character wonderfully.
Min EunJae
EunJae is the reliable best friend we all love and adore. He is understanding, warm, rational, and has extraordinary visuals. His relationship with HaYoung is more special than we’re led to believe, so prepare for some serious second(?) lead syndrome. We think WOODZ, Kim WooSeok (“Military Prosecutor Doberman”, “Rookie Cops”), and Choi HyunWook would make for the perfect Min EunJae. Note: The aim of the vote is for Kpopmap readers to share their opinion about their preference for the cast. It is not affecting the cast of the production team.
